Ain’t Gonna Make no War NO MORE!

I have received several requests for information about antiwar organizations and events. I am dedicating todays post to such. Below are just a sample of the larger organizations involved in antiwar organizing events. There are any number of smaller local organizations all over the place. Ask around by you to find these. The larger organizations I list here often have smaller local groups as part of their membership. The websites I will be providing links to often have a listing that provides contact information for such smaller local groups. Click on the group names to visit their sites.

I attended the ANSWER march on the pentagon a few months ago. It was a great success! ANSWER is the only organization that I know of that is still calling for large demonstrations. Their next mass rally is set for washingOOn, DC on September 15th, 2007.

Gold Star Families for Peace

This is an organization for people who have lost loved ones in the war. They are currently in the midst of running Cindy Sheehan’s walk from Texas to NYC. If this group is walking through your town this month, I hope you will join them for a ways, even if you don’t go the whole way.

Iraq Moratorium

This organization is calling for actions all over the country the third Friday of every month beginning Friday September 21st, 2007. I will be taking part and hope you will too.

Military Families Speak Out

This is an organization for people (like me) with loved ones in the US military. However, their website and events are open to anyone against the war.

United for Peace and Justice

I attended their mass rallies in washingtOOn and NYC a few months ago. They were both very successful events. Unfortunately, this organization has decided to stop organizing mass rallies and instead will be concentrating their efforts on smaller local events throughout the country. They have a listing on their site of these local events that anyone can add an event to. I will miss their larger events but will take part in any antiwar event this organization is involved with.

Veterans Against the Iraq War

These are some of the most committed antiwar people I’ve ever met. After all, who can be more against this war then people who have served on the ground? It has been an honor and a pleasure to march with members of this organization at several antiwar rallies I’ve attended.

It’s important to note that this is not intended to be an exhaustive list. This is just a list of the organizations I have been involved with, and intend to continue to be involved with. If you have a favorite not listed here, please feel free to add it via the comment box below this post!

Just an aside, you may have noticed the inverted US flag under the heading “America in distress” on my sidebar. It is a silent protest dreamed up by the folks at BlueBloggin. Click the flag to see what it’s all about and join the protest if you see fit. There is also an image under the heading “one million blogs for peace.” You can also click that image to find out what that’s about and join that protest too.

The telepathic Crickets hope you will support these and other antiwar organizations. Even if you can’t attend the events sponsored by these organizations, you can alway contribute much needed funds. All the sites I’ve linked to have some way to do so. I hope you can spare a few dollars or so to support their antiwar work!
