Congress Braces for a Bruising September
By Danielle Knight Wed Aug 29, 2007
Summer may be coming to a close, but expect fireworks when Congress returns in September. Lawmakers are preparing for a lineup of passionate debates, hearings, and votes on the Iraq war when they return after Labor Day. In addition to debate over the president’s proposed $145 billion war spending bill, the House will hold hearings next week on two new key reports on the military and political situations in Iraq. And both chambers will be anxiously awaiting the midmonth testimony by Gen. David Petraeus and U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker
“Expect a lot of noise on Iraq in September,” said one Democratic congressional aide.
Pending reports by the Government Accountability Office and an independent commission of military experts are expected to paint a negative picture of the situation in Iraq. Democrats are hoping that those reports–combined with the testimony from Petraeus and Crocker–will deliver such bad news that congressional Republicans will be forced to change course on Iraq.

This is just the latest round of dem dramatics. The FY2008 federal budget will contain more then a half trillion dollars for the military! This is my expectation, no matter what jabbering the MSM spews. The two parties of the apocalypse are gonna continue to fund this war into at least 2009. Don’t let the MSM con you into believing that there is any talk of ending this war. It is not gonna happen any time soon!
That dirty lying weasel, ari fleischer, former press secretary to the bush crime family, together with an advocacy group he helped create called “freedom’s watch,” has launched a $15 million national ad campaign with the goal of convincing the American public that continuing the war in Iraq is the right thing to do. Wounded veterans and Gold Star families are featured in these ads, stating that if Congress were to end the war in Iraq, war Veterans’ and Gold Star families’ sacrifices will mean nothing.
Last night, Military Families Speak Out and Gold Star Families Speak Out members Celeste and Dante Zappala picked up a video camera and made a one and one-half minute piece to counter the message of this bush crime family propaganda campaign:
Celeste’s son and Dante’s brother, Sgt. Sherwood Baker, was killed in Iraq on April 26, 2004, while guarding the Iraq Survey Group who were searching for the non-existent weapons of mass destruction — those same ‘weapons’ that Ari Fleischer helped the White House lie to the American people about. Sgt. Baker was the first Pennsylvania National Guard soldier to die in combat since World War II. He was 30 years old.
If you’re like me you are sick and ired of this failed war and are taking action whenever andwere ever you can to bringit to an end. September is shaping up to be a busy month for the antiwar movement. In about two weeks, on September 15th, there will be a MASSIVE demonstration in washingtOOn. I will be attending and hope to see you all there. You can click on the image link on my sidebar (Sept 15.org) to go to the site that gives all the info on this very important event. If you can’t make the rally in person (or even if you can), please consider a cash donation of whatever amount you can. You can use this link to go to the ANSWER donation page.
Cris over at Blog of the Unknown Writer has done a couple of great posts about what ANSWER has faced from the washingtOOn city government in the lead-up to this march. I suggest you drop by her blog and take a look.
The Iraq Moratorium which will take place the third Friday of every month beginning Friday September 21st is another way we all can get involved in antiwar activities. Click here to learn more about the moratorium! You can also donate to the organization that started the moratorium there.
Wherever you live, please look into local antiwar events and take part. A small donation to your local antiwar groups is always a good idea too! Greg Jerome has been covering a couple of events here in Utica, New York. His blog is called the Utica progressive. Drop by and check it out.
The telepathic crickets on the ClapSotronics editorial board hope you will be taking part in antiwar activities until we end this war!
