Congress Braces for a Bruising September

By Danielle Knight Wed Aug 29, 2007

Summer may be coming to a close, but expect fireworks when Congress returns in September. Lawmakers are preparing for a lineup of passionate debates, hearings, and votes on the Iraq war when they return after Labor Day. In addition to debate over the president’s proposed $145 billion war spending bill, the House will hold hearings next week on two new key reports on the military and political situations in Iraq. And both chambers will be anxiously awaiting the midmonth testimony by Gen. David Petraeus and U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker

“Expect a lot of noise on Iraq in September,” said one Democratic congressional aide.

Pending reports by the Government Accountability Office and an independent commission of military experts are expected to paint a negative picture of the situation in Iraq. Democrats are hoping that those reports–combined with the testimony from Petraeus and Crocker–will deliver such bad news that congressional Republicans will be forced to change course on Iraq.

Lawmakers say Bush’s war spending bill could grow to $180 billion

This is just the latest round of dem dramatics. The FY2008 federal budget will contain more then a half trillion dollars for the military! This is my expectation, no matter what jabbering the MSM spews. The two parties of the apocalypse are gonna continue to fund this war into at least 2009. Don’t let the MSM con you into believing that there is any talk of ending this war. It is not gonna happen any time soon!

That dirty lying weasel, ari fleischer, former press secretary to the bush crime family, together with an advocacy group he helped create called “freedom’s watch,” has launched a $15 million national ad campaign with the goal of convincing the American public that continuing the war in Iraq is the right thing to do. Wounded veterans and Gold Star families are featured in these ads, stating that if Congress were to end the war in Iraq, war Veterans’ and Gold Star families’ sacrifices will mean nothing.

Last night, Military Families Speak Out and Gold Star Families Speak Out members Celeste and Dante Zappala picked up a video camera and made a one and one-half minute piece to counter the message of this bush crime family propaganda campaign:

Celeste’s son and Dante’s brother, Sgt. Sherwood Baker, was killed in Iraq on April 26, 2004, while guarding the Iraq Survey Group who were searching for the non-existent weapons of mass destruction — those same ‘weapons’ that Ari Fleischer helped the White House lie to the American people about. Sgt. Baker was the first Pennsylvania National Guard soldier to die in combat since World War II. He was 30 years old.

If you’re like me you are sick and ired of this failed war and are taking action whenever andwere ever you can to bringit to an end. September is shaping up to be a busy month for the antiwar movement. In about two weeks, on September 15th, there will be a MASSIVE demonstration in washingtOOn. I will be attending and hope to see you all there. You can click on the image link on my sidebar (Sept 15.org) to go to the site that gives all the info on this very important event. If you can’t make the rally in person (or even if you can), please consider a cash donation of whatever amount you can. You can use this link to go to the ANSWER donation page.

Cris over at Blog of the Unknown Writer has done a couple of great posts about what ANSWER has faced from the washingtOOn city government in the lead-up to this march. I suggest you drop by her blog and take a look.

The Iraq Moratorium which will take place the third Friday of every month beginning Friday September 21st is another way we all can get involved in antiwar activities. Click here to learn more about the moratorium! You can also donate to the organization that started the moratorium there.

Wherever you live, please look into local antiwar events and take part. A small donation to your local antiwar groups is always a good idea too! Greg Jerome has been covering a couple of events here in Utica, New York. His blog is called the Utica progressive. Drop by and check it out.

  2. Personally, after doing two days worth of research, I think I’ve come up with a feasible scenario. The trillions that bushmonster demands is for IRAN, not Iraq. The billions he’s already blown have gone into a black hole in Iraq. I think he and chain-ee are planning another false flag (like the upcoming DHS TOPOFF 4 simulation drills in Portland where I live this October going live, just like similar drils did on 9/11/01). This crime against humanity (if it goes down) will tap the dominos they have lined up: when it goes live (real dirty bombs, for example), the strike on Iran goes live, and all the draconian executive orders will go live and martial law will slam down on us and forget the 2008 election (a sham anyway) where the repulsicans are currently in the toilet, and voila, bushmonster is in for life and all the terrified americans will lick his feet again, this new series of atrocities will add more millions to the millions he’s already killed. we’ll see how much of this plays out, since the road is wide open for him to do whatever he damn well pleases. How can this toxic freak be so stupid to think this is all going to work for him? I posted Paul Craig Roberts’ “War Criminal in the Living Room” on my blog today because I think it’s one of the most important blogs out there.

  3. Great stuff – makes me eager to see if anything good will happen. Thanks for your friendship and encouragement! You’re adding much to the momentum.

  4. The only true indicator of this sham economy we live in is the Dow and it has a foundation in dogshit. It’s only a matter of time before it comes crashing down below 10,000. When the next depression hits, hopefully consumer drunk Americans will finally wre-evaluate…or many they’ll just drown their sorrows by buying a new cell phone skin. What a joke.

  5. There’s no question about it. We’re on a express elevator. Going DOWN. I just can’t believe the stranglehold they’ve got on all of us or the number of gullible idiots in this country.

Luminaria’s comment is chilling. I’m heading over to check that out.

Solidarity, my friends. As my dead friend Thomas Paine once said, “If we don’t hang together, we shall surely hang separately.”
