Food for Thought…
As the spring flowers bloom and the days become warmer. Most of us will be readying ourselves for the “lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer.” There will be festivals and bonfires and BBQ’s. We will shake the last visages of ice from our chilled bones and awaken to the warmth of the returning sun.
In this seasonal transition, it becomes easy to forget all things negative. It becomes easy to just put important work aside and carry on day to day in the joy if the season. For those of us in the peace movement, this is not a good time to give in to these tendencies. We must remember that the spring and summer are not as joyful in the middle east. We must remember that the US government, OUR GOVERNMENT, has been waging an illegal and immoral war over there. We must remember that the two parties of the apocalypse (dems AND repubs) have continued this war for over five bloody years, at the cost of TWO MILLION LIVES AND HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF OUR TAX DOLLARS.
As we go about our fishing and gardening and camping. We must keep in mind that we as a peace movement have thus far failed. That the war rages on is proof of our failure. We must own this, our collective failure, not so much to fall into blaming ourselves and each other. But to analyze why we have failed and make changes in our strategy in the hope of ending the war.
The last strategic blunder came in the fall of 2006. This was when many well meaning anti-war folks voted the dems in. It was on the strength of the anti-war vote that both houses of congress were entrusted to the party of the jackass. Now almost two years later we must face the fact that our trust was misplaced. We must see that the dems have simply done everything in their power to continue this war, and we must look for alternatives to voting dem again.
In this presidential election year, I would like to offer my choice of the only truly progressive, anti-war candidate in the race. You can read all about him at:
The other choices (mccain, obama, barr) all have a pro-war voting record. There is no doubt in my mind that if any of those three gain the oval office come the fall, we will be suffering yet another “winter of our discontent” as they take office. Our young people in uniform will continue to be sent to the front. Our treasury will continue to be looted. Our world will continue to suffer this disgraceful war.
Will three million killed be enough? How about four million?
