washingtOOn need increase funding to the social safety net NOW! NO MORE “faith based” NONSENSE EITHER!

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”

– Ralph Waldo Emerson

big blew globalization:

“IBM not only is offshoring its work to low-cost countries, now IBM wants employees to offshore themselves, at a time of rising unemployment IBM should be looking to keep both the work and the workers in the United States.”

Lee Conrad a spokesman for Alliance@IBM, an ibm workers’ group

Well Cricketeers, we poor folk are getting screwed again, as usual. What are we getting from obamessiah? More of that “faith based” bullshit we got from labushanostra! This is another of ethically challenged obamessiah’s flip flops! Candidate obamessiah was quoted thusly back in July:

“If you get a federal grant, you can’t use that grant money to proselytize to the people you help and you can’t discriminate against them — or against the people you hire — on the basis of their religion”

SONOFABUSH! What a difference an oval office makes huh? Now that sweet talkin’ slim has the gig, he bailin’! It was all just more of his loose change poetics! This from cnnpolitics:

Controversy surrounds Obama’s faith office

By Alexander Mooney

CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) — President Obama’s newly revamped Office of Faith Based Initiatives is reigniting a contentious debate across the ideological spectrum over whether religious organizations that accept funds from the government should be allowed to discriminate when hiring.

In one corner is a string of religion-backed organizations that have accepted federal funds from the 8-year-old program to advance their secular charity work. President Bush issued an executive order in 2002 that allowed these groups to continue their practice of discrimination with respect to hiring. Specifically, many of the organizations carry policies against hiring outside their religion or hiring homosexuals whose lifestyles conflict with church doctorines.

In the other corner are separation-of-church-and-state advocates and human-rights organizations that say the government must constitutionally compel these organizations to follow nondiscrimination laws if they accept federal funding. Anything less, they say, would at best be a violation of church-state separation and at worst an implicit endorsement of discrimination.

Let me say in no uncertain terms:

WE POOR FOLKS NEED THAT OL’ TIME CASH, not that ol’ time religion!

DAGNABIT! SHOW US THE MONEY! It does labamanostra NO GOOD to give zillions in corpoRATe welfare bailouts AND zillions in middle class tax cuts, while filtering loose change to the poor through these organizations run by religious fanatics! We get lots of sermon and little service (if any) from these bloated “not for profit” funding sinkholes! Most of the grant money these “godly” pigs get goes to employ their cult members! This is an editorial I wrote several months ago for my local blog:

Down and Out in Utica, New York

I don’t have to tell my fellow residents of Utica, New York that our little city is not without it’s problems. But problems are solvable. It is with that in mind that I will be writing this weekly editorial here at The Utica Soap Box.

The title of this editorial points to a problem that all cities grapple with. Homelessness is a truly PLANET WIDE PROBLEM. I wish that I could say that it is less of a problem here in Utica then it is elsewhere, but I can’t say that because it isn’t! I also wish that I could say that the government and not for profit safety net here in Utica is doing a great job addressing the needs of homeless persons, but I can’t say that because it isn’t! On a scale of one to ten, one being dreadful, and ten being excellent, I grade the local safety net at MINUS ONE THOUSAND! Sorry, it’s a complete failure! I will now offer a short list of why the local system fails, and what need be done improve it.

PROBLEM ONE (DSS):

The main local government agency charged by law to serve the homeless poorest of the poor (could you be more poor then homeless?) is the Oneida County Department of Social Services (DSS). Ask anyone that has ever been forced to apply for benefits at DSS and they will tell you a horror story! In a world filled with malfunctioning bureaucracies DSS is a standout as far as institutionalized dysfunction. The overriding problem at this disaster of an agency is the endless paperwork pitfalls designed into the application process. These pitfalls often lead to a denial of benefits, even if a person is homeless! The excuse given by DSS for this morass of paperwork pitfalls leading to denial of benefits is “fraud prevention” which I opine throws the baby out with the bathwater. Literally, when it comes to homeless persons with children! The real fraud at DSS happens on a biweekly basis! That fraud happens when the DSS so called “workers” get their pay checks! I can not think of ANY GOOD REASON WHY SOMEONE WHO IS HOMELESS SHOULD BE DENIED BENEFITS! It’s a matter of LIFE AND DEATH AFTER ALL! HOMELESS PEOPLE CAN FREEZE TO DEATH SLEEPING ON THE STREETS! Denial of benefits is even worse for homeless people with children!

Even if, and this is a very big if, a homeless person manages to avoid the pitfalls and AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF PAPERWORK RUN AROUND finally gets their benefits approved. There are a number of DSS offices (such as the misnamed “office of self sufficiency”) which inflict on the formally homeless person every sleazy paperwork trick they can think of to render the once formally homeless person, HOMELESS AGAIN by denying their hard fought for benefits! I’m sure we all can see how this becomes a vicious cycle of temporarily being housed, followed by being forced back into homelessness. This is not a reasonable solution to the problem of homelessness.

SOLUTION TO PROBLEM ONE (DSS):

This can only be solved by local elected officials focusing more energy and resources on oversight of DSS. If there are any local elected officials actually overseeing this disgrace of an agency, they are doing a lax and insufficient job! Much the same can be said of the not for profits who receive grants to work to alleviate the suffering of homeless people. The other possibility is that the officials required by law to oversee DSS WANT IT TO BE THE CURRENT FAILURE THAT IT IS! I hope I’ve made my case that we need more and better oversight of DSS!

PROBLEM TWO (not for profits):

These not for profit agencies should be a much bigger part of the solution to the problem of homelessness. Alas, they are too often part of the problem. Case in point, at some time in past it was realized that homeless people, especially homeless people with disabilities, might have difficulty navigating the multi-agency paperwork required to receive services that would help them become housed. The answer to this problem was the creation of the “single point of access” system. There is a glaring problem with this system that must be addressed if it has any hope of being useful. IT REQUIRES A HOMELESS PERSON TO PRODUCE PAPERWORK IN ORDER TO GET “single point of access” assistance! If a homeless person is having trouble producing the paperwork necessary to receive DSS benefits, WHAT MAKES ANYONE THINK THAT THEY ARE LIKELY TO BE ABLE TO PRODUCE THE “single point of access” PAPERWORK? Even if a homeless person manages to produce the “single point of access” paperwork, it often takes weeks if not months for the homeless person to receive any help from the “single point of access” system.

I can go on and on with these not for profit horror stories. Local homeless shelters are run by a bizarre religious cult that insists that shelter residents must attend twice weekly chapel meetings, lest they be thrown out on the street! This is an often heard complaint. Keep that in mind the next time you are asked to write a donation check in an effort to “rescue” homeless people. For those that fall for the “private charities should be able to do what ever they want” nonsense, these far from “rescuing” religious fanatics RECEIVE GOVERNMENT GRANTS TO PROVIDE THEIR PISS POOR “services.” If a religious organization were to be given a government grant to run the department of motor vehicles and YOU were told that YOU would have to attend the services of a religion not your own in order to renew your drivers license. You would then understand how ABSURD it is to require homeless people to submit to religious indoctrination at shelters under threat of being kicked out! THIS SO CALLED FAITH BASED INSANITY MUST END! I don’t believe these “people of faith” have any business FORCING THEIR RELIGION ON ANYONE WHO DOESN’T WANT IT! The “holy rollers” should be brought to heel, or should be stripped of all government grants!

Don’t even get me started on the waste, fraud, and abuse that has cropped up at some these local not for profits. Anyone who remembers the Utica Citizen Action disaster knows all about what can go wrong!

SOLUTION TO PROBLEM TWO (not for profits):

As odd as this may seem, I believe that one of the things I mentioned as part of the problem offers real hope for being the solution. That is the “single point of access” concept. It need be strengthened and modified though. Here’s what I suggest the “single point of access” concept should become:

A) mitigate the systematic “ghettoization” problem faced by homeless people from different demographic backgrounds (age, disabilities, mobility, educational attainment, veteran, etc.) by making single point of access a real place. That place should be the waiting room at DSS. This is where the rubber meets the road when it comes to the homeless problem. There should be, at the very least, a table set up in the DSS waiting room staffed by at least one outreach worker trained and knowledgeable about all the not for profit agencies available to assist not only homeless people, but anyone who needs assistance with the DSS process (which means everyone involved with the DSS process!). This table should be staffed at all times during the hours DSS is open. Outreach workers should also make at least weekly visits to the homeless shelters. Relying on shelter staff who are far too busy trying to recruit homeless people into their religious cult is not a sensible solution! Faith based shelter staffers are simply unwilling or unable to offer ANY REAL ASSISTANCE WHAT SO EVER!

B) A very simple questionnaire which can assess which not for profit and government agencies and programs a person in need qualifies for should be offered. The table should as well include printed material explaining these not for profit and government agencies and programs IN PLAIN ENGLISH AS WELL AS IN OTHER LANGUAGES. Said material should include names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, etc. so a person in need can contact these agencies.

As it stands now the “single point of access” system relies on cross agency referral. If a person in need doesn’t find their way to any of these agencies in the first place, how can there be any crossing. This single point of access outreach table would clearly be a better way to “road map” the maze for people in need!

Do I believe that this editorial has even touched on the problems homeless persons and other people in need face every day and have offered enough possible solutions to those problems? In a word, NO. I have written over 1500 words and this editorial has barely scratched the surface of this issue.

The entire safety net system is underfunded, and far too much of it’s funding goes to hiring useless government bureaucrats and to  these “not for profits” who spend too much of it on useless office bound cult members, among other forms of waste, fraud and abuse. Direct cash assistance should be increased and feckless appaRATchik “employment” should be decreased (LAY THOSE BASTARDS OFF!)

Job losses mount; unemployment surges to 7.6%

By Barbara Hagenbaugh, USA TODAY

WASHINGTON — The unemployment rate rose to a 16-year high 7.6% in January as employers slashed a seasonally adjusted 598,000 jobs, the most since 1974, the government said Friday in a report that showed the job market deteriorating at a rapid clip.

More than 11.6 million people were out of work last month, up 54% from a year ago and the most since December 1982, when the economy was emerging from one of the deepest and longest recessions in U.S. history.

Why do I think increases in aid are needed? Here’s reason number one. This from cnnmoney;

The jobs problem you don’t know about

The sharp jump in layoffs gets all the attention, but it’s the lack of hiring and job openings that pose greater risks for the labor market and economy.

By Chris Isidore, CNNMoney.com senior writer

February 5, 2009

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — January was one of the worst months for layoffs ever, with nearly a quarter million job cut announcements grabbing headlines.

But the real problem in the U.S. labor market today isn’t layoffs. It’s a hiring freeze that is gripping most work places — and has not gotten nearly as much attention as the job cuts.

“The hiring rate has caved. That’s why the job market is as bad as it is,” said Mark Zandi, chief economist with Moody’s Economy.com. “Given this low hiring rate, unemployment would still rise even if layoffs were falling.”

The number of people finding new jobs after losing old is dropping. Even extended unemployment benefits will run out. There is about to be a HUGE INFLUX of welfare applications. The states have been on a block grant program since the ethically challenged klinton klan screwed us with welfare so called “reform”. The safety net is full of holes. The “faith based” and other “not for profits” will not be able to meet the needs. It’s time to increase funding before it’s too late!

Reason number two is that we need spur demand in the economy in this time of deflation. The best people to give cash to for such purpose is the poor. We poor folk will go out and spend it on immediate needs like food and clothing. Continue to give it to the middle class via tax cuts, and they will pay off debt or save it. This adds no demand to the economy. That goes double for the lemon socialist corpoRATe welfare bailouts!

Given that obamessiah and his klinton klan cohort are spending THREE TRILLION taxpayer funded dollars on lemon socialist corpoRATe welfare bailouts to the criminal corpoRATe thieves who crashed the world economy. IT IS SIMPLY FAIR AND REASONABLE that those of us who are so poor that we never profit from the good times should finally be cut in on the deal at this BAD TIME and beyond. It’s time to repeal the klinton klan disaster called tanf, and replace it with a plan that funds basic human needs, in national good times or bad…

We at ClapSotronics continue to insist on:

CRIMINAL PROSECUTION OF THE corpoRATe THIEVES!

THAT GOES DOUBLE FOR THE “not for profit” corpoRATe thieves too!

The Telepathic Crickets™ on the ClapSotronics editorial board and I want the feckless appaRATchiks in washingtOOn to OFF the religious fanatic pigs!
